Johan Duijck

Johan Duijck is the conductor of the Flemish Radio Choir, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chorus in London and the Ghent Madrigal Choir. He regularly appears as guest conductor with renowned ensembles such as the European Youth Choir, the Danish Radio Choir, the Irish National Chamber Choir, the Choir of Spanish Radio and Television, the Reykjavik Cathedral Choir (Iceland), the Coro de la Universidad de la República (Montevideo, Uruguay), the Capilla Santa Cecilia (Puebla, Mexico).

As a composer Johan Duijck chooses to concentrate on piano and choral music. His compositions El camino del Alma, A Mirror to St Nicolas, The well-tempered pianist and Le Tombeau de Ravel have received international acclaim. Not only does Johan Duijck conduct and compose, but he also greatly enjoys performing on his first love: the piano. In his recitals, masterpieces from the classic repertoire are alternated with forgotten gems and original finds.

Johan Duijck also has an excellent reputation as a teacher. He is Professor of piano at the Royal College of Music in Ghent and Professor of choir conducting at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona. He has taught piano and choir conducting to countless students at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Belgium), the Dartington International Summer School and the Euskalerriko Abesbatzen Elkartea (Spain). His own principal teachers were Peter Cabus (composition), Robert Steyaert (piano) and László Heltay (conducting).
