BBC PROMS 2018 WITH JOSHUA BELL

Sunday 12 August, 4pm
Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AP

PROGRAMME

  • Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture
  • Saint‐Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor
  • Bridge Lament (for Catherine, aged 9, ‘Lusitania’ 1915)
  • Beethoven Symphony No. 4 in B flat major

OVERVIEW

We’re delighted to return to the world’s greatest classical music festival for an afternoon concert directed by our Music Director Joshua Bell.

The programme includes Mendelssohn’s charming A Midsummer Night’s Dream overture and Beethoven’s graceful Fourth Symphony, as well as Frank Bridge’s poignant Lament (for Catherine, aged 9 “Lusitania” 1915) – an elegy for those who died following the torpedoing of the RMS Lusitania, and a work not heard at the BBC Proms since its world premiere in 1915. Our Music Director stars as soloist in Saint-Saëns’ lyrical and virtuosic Third Violin Concerto.
