Chamber Music coaching for schools
opportunities throughout the year for coaching from our players
APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR FREE IN-SCHOOL PERFORMANCE AND COACHING! Please follow this link to apply by 26th June!
For the 2026/7 season, ASMF are introducing opportunities for workshops in schools and music hubs. This includes bespoke coaching for Chamber ensembles with expert musicians from our orchestra. Participants will work closely with our players on communication, interpretation, rehearsal techniques, and performance practices well as receiving guidance on writing for instruments and workshopping student compositions.
Our workshops are designed to be fun interactive sessions for students, to foster confidence and nurture talent around the UK. Following the success of Sarah Newbold’s Marriner Project bringing chamber coaching to music hubs and schools in Sarah’s local community in south Wales, our offer for schools uses the model developed by Sarah and her fellow musicians, which we excited to be taking forward in our work with schools. You can read about Sarah’s most recent trip here.

If you have a chamber or small ensemble who you think could benefit from this opportunity, we would love to hear from you!
WHO
These workshops are aimed at secondary school age pre-formed chamber and small ensembles who could benefit from a masterclass style workshop working on a piece or multiple pieces known to the group.
WHAT
Our standard 2 hour workshop follows the following basic structure:
- Short (20 or 30min) performance / talk / Q&A from a group of ASMF musicians (this can be for a larger group of pupils than are taking part in the workshops)
- Coaching of 2 (or more) ensembles for around 1 hour (or 2 x 30m) with one or two ASMF musicians working with each group
- Final performance from each ensemble to their peers and ASMF musicians to showcase what has been worked on.
This structure is very flexible and can be adapted to pupils / teachers preferences if necessary.
APPLICATION PROCESS
STAGE ONE: Please fill out this form to register your initial interest in workshops in the Autumn term. We will be accepting applications until 26th June 2026.
STAGE TWO: We will review applications after this and respond to you by Friday 3rd July. Please note if you are not successful for this round we will keep in touch for future opportunities.
STAGE THREE: Successful applicants will be sent further information to finalise the details for your workshop and begin logistic planning with our team.
HOW WE ASSESS APPLICATIONS
We consider:
- Which ensembles we think our musicians are best suited to coach based on style of music, repertoire and size of ensemble
- Availability of our musicians for your preferred date range
- Spaces where we can have extended impact, perhaps with a visit to an ASMF open rehearsal or concert!
Please note these workshops are designed for UK based schools and music hubs. If you are interested in international opportunities around our touring schedule, you can find more details in our Beyond the Stage brochure.
Independent schools are welcome to apply but may be asked to make a contribution towards costs of up to £400.
“I just wanted to reiterate how brilliant Monday was – you and your team were fabulous! The pupils haven’t stopped talking about it! which is exactly the kind of impact and inspiration I was hoping for! Genuinely positive feedback about watching you all play and participating in chamber groups – and even about playing in front of you all and each other – which was definitely a worry for many of them! We are all very much looking forward to seeing you again.”— Vicky Callow, Music teacher – Crickhowell High School

“I learned that music isn’t just playing the right notes, it was about teamwork.”— Anonymous, Workshop Participant
