Meet the Musicians

Our brand-new Meet the Musicians series offers our supporters a chance to gain insights directly from the orchestra’s musicians, in conversation with our Director of Concerts Alison Tedbury.

The evenings will also include a drinks reception and performances from our featured musician.

We hope you can join us!

James Burke, Principal Clarinet

Wednesday 31 October 2018
7:00pm–9.00pm

Please note, due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been postponed. Apologies for any disappointment caused.

For our first event in the series we invite you to enjoy an evening in the company of James Burke, our outstanding Principal Clarinettist, just after his return from our Mexico tour, in which he stars as soloist in Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto.

Hear stories from James’ years of performing with the orchestra and the Academy Chamber Ensemble and learn about his work inspiring the next generation of musicians as part of our Learning and Participation projects.

The evening also offers the chance to enjoy performances by James in the wonderful surroundings of the historic Brunswick House – described as “London’s best-kept secret” – as well as drinks and nibbles.

James Burke’s Chair is supported by Clive and Helena Butler

Miranda Playfair, Violin

Tuesday 19 March 2019
7.00–9.00pm
Private House in Chiswick

Miranda Playfair has played with the Academy since leaving music college, when Sir Neville Marriner invited her to join his orchestra after hearing her at the Wigmore Hall.

Join us to hear her fond memories of performing with Sir Neville and former Academy Director Iona Brown and find out about her work as Founder and Artistic Director of the Anglo-Corsican arts festival Ponte Cultura.

The evening also offers the chance to enjoy performances by Miranda, as well as drinks and nibbles.

Miranda Playfair’s Chair is supported by Peter & Prilla Stott
