Sir David Willcocks put the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, firmly on the musical map in his 17 year spell as Director of Music, during which he brought the choir together with the Academy to produce several celebrated records. In this recording made over two sittings in 1972-1973, the man John Rutter called ‘the father of the English choral renaissance’ conducts Haydn’s late oratorio, The Creation, with soloists Heather Harper (soprano), Robert Tear (tenor) and John Shirley-Quirk (baritone).
