Our Work with people experiencing homelessness
For over 25 years, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields has worked alongside people experiencing homelessness, using our distinctive co-creative musical practice as a catalyst for wellbeing, connection and empowerment. Our work is grounded in the belief that musical empowerment – through co‑creation, improvisation, shared ownership and artistic challenge – can support recovery, agency and belonging for those experiencing significant challenge.
Our research informed approach takes ASMF’s world-class musicians into day centres across London to collaborate musically with clients and service users, building toward performances and informal sharings. In September 2026, we will launch a new offer developed through two pilot projects: an orchestra for people experiencing homelessness.

We are grateful to our partner organisations for their support of our work: The Connection at St Martins, The Outside Project, The 999 Club, Refettorio Felix, Ollalo House, Project Basecamp.

“The Orchestra sessions have been a powerful protective factor at a critical time in my client’s recovery journey. Your work has made a tangible difference, not only in lifting someone from a place of despair but also in helping them reconnect with their strengths and potential. Thank you for providing such a life-affirming, inclusive, and empowering space. It’s not an exaggeration to say it has been life changing”— Senior Support Worker
