Create, Cultivate, Orchestrate! provides an extraordinary opportunity for young musicians aged 9-18 living in the borough of Newham to perform alongside professional orchestral players from the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. The project promotes creativity and individuality, encouraging participants to explore their musicality whilst engaging with the core classical orchestral repertoire.
The project encompasses three strands; a ‘tour in a day’ in which Academy musicians perform at school assemblies in three different schools, taster workshops and a more intensive three day performance project.
During the three day workshop, students collaborated with Academy musicians to improvise, compose and develop their instrumental skills, advance their ensemble skills and enhance their musicality through re-arranging classical works; watched a rehearsal with Joshua Bell ahead of the Academy’s concert at Cadogan Hall on 23 July; and gave a fantastic final performance at Canary Wharf the following day.
Watch the video below for the final performance.
