Programme

Haydn Symphony No.103 ‘Drumroll’
Beethoven Symphony No.1
Although not published until 1801, sketches of Beethoven’s trailblazing first symphony can be traced back to 1795, the era when he was being coached by his mentor, Joseph Haydn. Beethoven was too proud to officially acknowledge Haydn’s influence on his music, but hearing these symphonies back to back shows their undoubted similarities in sound and style. A programme that explores this prolific teacher-pupil relationship is an apt way to celebrate our new venture that puts education and world-class musical development at its core.
