The Academy of St Martin in the Fields directed by Tomo Keller joins the trailblazing and fearless pianist Alexandra Dariescu for a performance including Clara Schumann’s piano concerto and Mozart’s Rondo in D for Piano and Orchestra, the first piece Alexandra performed in public with an orchestra. Regarded as one of the most revered great pianists of the nineteenth century, Clara (Wieck) Schumann’s concerto for piano was completed, published and premiered by the time she was only sixteen.
Dariescu will collaborate with ASMF musicians to perform Clara Schumann’s Three Romances for Violin and Piano with Tomo Keller on Violin, some of the last pieces Clara ever wrote, and Three Pieces for Cello & Piano with Richard Harwood on cello, by composer, conductor and teacher, Nadia Boulanger. The concert will also feature Within Her Arms by celebrated British composer, Anna Clyne.
