OVERVIEW

Music Director Joshua Bell leads the Academy on a first national tour of Australia in close to three decades, performing twice each in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane with violin concertos by Tchaikovsky, Bruch and Mozart, and symphonies by Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven. Bell also leads the Academy Chamber Ensemble in an exclusive hour-long morning concert in Melbourne on 20 April, featuring Mendelssohn’s String Octet and Franz Hasenöhrl’s arrangement of Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel.

Joshua spoke to us for an ASMF Podcast episode in June 2015 to lift the lid on the secrets of Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Violin Concerto and the challenge of performing such a technically challenging work unconducted:
